Nosework class (1/44)

Blogger has changed their interface and the links to videos aren't working correctly.  I can't get any help from their help/support.  So, for the time being I will include the youtube links directly.

A fun class for sure.

Interior 1 video - https://youtu.be/tY8kfVXwteE
The challenge was for the dogs to get up and under tables - to source. One table had nothing around it, one had some chairs, and the other had chairs and was against the wall. Gimme trotted around quickly scanning the area and it seemed to take her awhile to actually catch scent. I think she was a bit dehydrated - I'd given her coconut water when we got there, but maybe it hadn't hydrated her nasal passages yet. She was almost a minute into the search before she found the first hide. It takes about half a minute to find the second hide. She found the general area of the last hide in 25 seconds, but then spends another 45 seconds getting to source. I think with the fans on and the open door nearby, the scent was moving more - note she checked each chair carefully.

Interior 2 video - https://youtu.be/2npQiKG4vIo
Dorothy tipped the tables over so the dogs could dismiss the lingering odor easily. She quickly found the hide under the edge of the tote. Gimme was very happy to see there was a puzzle this week - she loves them. It took longer to find the third hide - again up front. Between the fans and the heat from outside drawing scent toward the open door, it was just a big challenge. Note how much stuff she checked out between the hide location and the open door.

Water hides video - https://youtu.be/CHsGvmjxtCc
There were two water hides - one in the pool and another in the water dish. A couple of dogs had never done water hides, so the shallow water in the dish was a chance for them to have easy success. Gimme has done this before, in class and in trials, so it was easy for her. The breeze was coming from where the camera was, so it made sense for her to check out the area of the portico. She indicated in 20 seconds, even though the water was 6" deep and the hide had only been in there a couple minutes. From there she went directly to the water dish. This was a fun refresher.

We'll be getting bee pollen tomorrow and hopefully it'll help her scenting abilities, though it does take a few weeks. Cross yer fingers...

Nosework class (6/43)

Exterior 1 - no video (technical difficulties) - The first search was the same hides as the second search, but all the chairs were laid flat. Gimme was super fast. I don't know why, but all the other dogs really struggled with this search. I understand with the more inexperienced dogs who hadn't searched over here, but a couple of dogs had and shouldn't have had such difficulty.

Exterior 2 video - Three hides. I'm not sure what Dorothy meant by her making it hard on herself. I thought Gimme was really bold to continue searching the stool after she touched it and it sprung open and toward her. The breeze was blowing from the right, which is why Gimme overran the last hide.

Interior video - Dorothy set up puzzles, which Gimme loves. The first one was easy-peasy for her. For the first puzzle, Gimme made her own entry, but then had a little trouble finding her way out. Since she didn't come in the way it was designed, it was a confusing visual for her. The third hide just had something in the way - well it would be in the way for anyone but Gimme.

Gimme thinks we should have puzzles every week - just so she can show off her incredible puzzle solving skills.

Nosework class (5/43)

These two exterior searches dealt with converging odor. I'm not sure it was really converging in the first search, but clearly was in the second search.

Exterior 1 video - Three hides along a sidewalk. Gimme found the first hide in seconds. The second door is the exterior storage where Dorothy keeps odor and used boxes. So she put a hide in a brick at the base of the door so the dogs wouldn't think it was an inaccessible hide and be told "no". Gimme had no trouble finding it. It took her a little longer to find the hide off the sidewalk under a rock. I think the air flowed up the side of the building, making the first two hides more obvious.

Exterior 2 video - Three hide exterior. Gimme started to pass the first hide and then whipped back to it. It was stuck in a crack on the wood upright for the mailbox. Gimme was the only dog to pay any attention to the rock hide before going to the second (high) mailbox hide. The breeze was blowing from the road, so the scent was surely stronger coming from that direction. It took her a little bit to find the rock hide, but she did. As Dorothy mentioned, the breeze blew across the mailboxes right toward it. Gimme likes to follow lines of scent out and I think in doing so she got close enough to find the rock hide.

Interior video - This turned out to be a long and challenging search and Gimme thoroughly enjoyed it. The hardest hide was the one behind the cabinet and some dogs never found it. Gimme did well finding the chair hide. From there she went straight to the stool hide. Dorothy had the overhead fans on, which I think dispersed the scent for the cabinet hide in a weird way. It was interesting to me, when she re-visited the chair hide, she checked it, but knew better than to indicate it. From the second hide until she decided and indicated was 2:40, which is a LOT for Gimme. I think it would be interesting to revisit this search, but just with the one hide behind the cabinet.

One thing which is so very cool about Gimme is how she just never gives up. One of the other dogs got frustrated and stopped searching. One got frustrated and they ended the search. August found it just a bit faster - he's a GSD so he resorted to perimeter searching, which took him right to it.

Nosework class (3/43)

Around noon, Gimme and I joined a couple other students to run some searches for Dorothy, for use in her webinar. Gimme did a great job and had a lot of fun, since they were pretty easy searches. Dorothy said she'd share the videos, but I haven't seen them yet. <pout>

This first part of class was about indications - does the dog communicate their find. Gimme always does, but sometimes too vigorously (especially with containers), so I tried to get in quickly with a reward. She really did a nice job... batted a couple boxes aside, but didn't paw or stomp them.

Container 1 video - Gimme worked really fast, she indicated in ten seconds, without bashing the box. She tends to get more and more forceful with repeat container searches.

Container 2 video - I forgot my camera, so Dorothy taped our runs with my phone (Paul thought of it). You miss Gimme zooming off the start because she had her finger in the way. I was really proud of Gimme for catching the threshold-first-box hide - she normally zooms by really fast and outruns her nose. She indicated in about 2 seconds. For a couple seconds she noses around the box near the second hide (fringing), but then moves to the correct box on her own. She's such a smarty.

Container 3 video - This time she does bypass the threshold-first-box hide, but gets right back to it. Then she goes on to find the second hide. Her indications were so clean.

These last two searches were about high hides. Gimme loves high hides. There were three height choices and we started with the highest, then went lower for the next search.  Gimme was the only one to do the highest choice first.  Two others did it as their second high hide search.  Since Gimme already did it, it makes it easier for them, since she would leave scent clues.

Interior 1 video - This hide was 8 feet high and on the external point of a wall, making it even harder. Right at 1:06, you'll see her nose tip up as she passes by the hide location. Then she starts doing a bunch of searching in the area of the hide. She does move away for 8 seconds before coming back. I take this as her making sure about what she is smelling. Once she's back it takes just 12 seconds to go right up the wall. She was so very proud of herself and got a lot a treats for her efforts.

Interior 2 video - For our last search I chose the 6 feet high search. She scans the room and when she's ready goes right to the ladder and puts her feet on it. She's really very good at high hides and enjoys them.

She likes high hides so much, during one period of her early training I needed to toss treats on the ground for her to find while we were walking, just to encourage her to check for low hides too. I put a lot of effort into making sure she understood low hides pay too. Now she uses her nose to guide her decisions.

She's brilliant. Just sayin...

Nosework class (2/43)

This is our first week back at class. Actually class restarted two weeks earlier, but I misread the email. Don't tell Gimme, she'd be very annoyed.

NACSW has a skills program with video entry. Our class is doing the program and anyone who wants to participate can have their runs taped. I always have mine taped for my own instruction and my blog, so I thought I might do it. Then when I got home and looked at it, I decided it was too much money to spend for a "certificate".

The first three interior searches were about whether the dog had the skill to go to source.

Interior 1 video - Gimme zoomed right past the hide and went to the room where Dorothy stood. Of course, then she had to check it out - for 24 seconds. It took her just 9 seconds to get it once she left the room.  In hindsight, I should have treated this like I do at trials, waiting a little longer at the area entry, since this works well to draw her back to the threshold.

Interior 2 video - Gimme scans the area and hones in on the hide in 20 seconds. Seeing the video is very different from what I thought happened. I thought she indicated on the seat corner closest to where she stood, but in the video she indicated at the middle or just past it. I paid her at the wrong corner (where she moved to as she backed out to look at me); in reality she indicated pretty close to source.  I included a still at the end of the video, showing where she indicated.

Interior 3 video - Gimme zooms in the room and gets to the table-chairs combo very quickly. She indicates right at source (in the center, under the chair seat) in 19 seconds. Very nice.

The three container searches were to see if the dog could hunt at a distance from the handler. We released them from the startline and remained there while they searched. We could move to join them when they indicated. The hides were farther and farther away. It was hard for me to get there quickly from so far away and Gimme got more and more "vigorous" with each search.

Container 1 video - There were six boxes and the hide was in number four. Gimme indicated in 6 seconds.

Container 2 video - There were eight boxes and the hide was in number six. Gimme indicated in 12 seconds. No one in class has ever seen me run before, thus the background chuckling.

Container 3 video - There were ten boxes and the hide was in number ten. Gimme indicated in 7 seconds! She was ready to go into major box-bashing mode, until she saw me running toward her.

Clearly working at a distance from me is not an issue. She's pretty certain she could do the whole thing without me if I'd just let her wear the treat pouch.

Nosework class (1/43)

This was our last class before all the social distancing stuff started. We thought it would only be a couple weeks, but just learned it's going to be another month. My instructors are starting an online homework group. To give us all ideas we can work on. I've already signed up and it starts tomorrow, March 30th. Those of us who want to can video our homework and share it with the group. So I'll be blogging about that. Gimme will be verrrrry happy to do some nosework.

Interior 1 video - Gimme was busy all over the room before she decided to settle on the tables. I do think the odor was channeling a bit to the left side of the crack - you will see her stop at the end of the crack and look at me. In a trial I might have called "alert" there, so this was a good opportunity for me to wait her out until she went to source. I was surprised to see her spend 1:25 on this search.

Interior 2 video - She finds the first hide in just 14 seconds this time - apparently much easier. When I said "you can't be serious?", it was because Gimme went under the wheelchair and was crouching as if to jump into the area where the hide was. I wouldn't normally expect her to jump into a spot she couldn't see into, but sometimes she can be damned bold and classmate August (GSD) did jump in right there. So they added the wheelchair, but there was still enough space for her to physically make the jump. I was glad she opted out. When she came around she found the way in.

Interior 3 video - Gimme finds the first hide in just a few seconds, but doesn't really commit to it until 13 seconds in. From there she decides to go check out the hide in the corner maze. When she comes out she gets right to the hide on the chairs.

I guess I should have blogged about this sooner, as I have no memory what all the laughter was about. At least you can see Gimme pays no attention to it. She can be very focused when she's hunting odor.

Nosework class (6/42)

These were a very interesting group of searches. They were all paired and started out so simple. They had an intriguing way of folding the box lid, so it left a section for the treats.

Gimme found it very exciting and after the first search she would spend the whole time in the foyer whining. We weren't "supposed" to treat them, since the hides were all paired, but I did anyway. I've learned with Gimme she will take this as a change in procedure and next thing I know she'll start doing touch-n-go hides, not waiting for treats from me. I don't want to risk making her indications less clear.

Interior 1 video - All three hides were out in the open. It's hard to believe it took Gimme 22 seconds to find the first hide, but then she really went to town. Next second took 8 seconds and the last at the far end of the room took 15 seconds. Easy peasy.

Interior 2 video - This time the three hides were under something. This can be intimidating for inexperienced dogs - it never bothered Gimme. She came in really excited and was moving faster than she did during the first search. These "under somethings" were so easy and I don't think she even noticed. The first was the tightest, but it didn't slow her down, 16 seconds. Under the table was eeeeasy, 7 seconds. The last also took 7 seconds.

Interior 3 video - For the third search the hides were more challenging. The one at the front was a puzzle to find the entrance. Gimme had it in 13 seconds. The far hide was against the wall, two tables deep, and she had it in 10 seconds. And the last hide, in the smallest space, took her 11 seconds. The laughter was because, in my attempt to toss her another treat, it landed on the shelf above the hide and the table edge made it a very tight squeeze for her to get to it - but she certainly did.

The last three searches had just one hide each and were more challenging.

Interior 4 video - This hide under the center of two tables proved challenging for all the dogs. She pulled the tables apart by a couple inches, so we could deliver treats from above. I had Dino Chicken Nuggets, so just held one by the tail dangling through the track.

Interior 5 video - Gimme got this really fast. It was on the seat of the chair and under the table, which makes it an intimidating tight squeeze for some dogs. After the nugget-on-the-shelf fiasco, this was very easy.

Interior 6 video - It's hard to see them in the video, but there is an expen across the front and a bit down both sides, so the dogs had to find the channel and then get in for a tight squeeze. There was also a table across the back, to keep them from trying to stick their nose through from the back. Gimme had this in 19 seconds.

This class demonstrated really nice incrementing to teach the dogs a specific challenge. It's a non-challenge for Gimme and August, so they just had a lot of fun with easy searches - great motivation for them.

Nosework class (3/42)

This was an unusual class. We worked as a group and recorded the changes of behavior by the dog and when they occurred. The idea was to compare the c.o.b. from one search to another. All searches were off leash.

There was another class in here earlier and Dorothy reported finding a lot of treats, so all of the dogs checked out food smells at one time or another.

Interior 1 search video - There were no hides in the first search. Gimme looked at me 5 times at :21, :32, :45, 1:05 and 1:10. She foraged in the main food smell area at :50 (near the ladder on the floor). Her first look was because I was catching up to her, coming close. After it, she looked at me several times. I think because I was verbally marking the looks and she was looking at me to see if it meant anything (which Dorothy comments on). Also note, to begin with she moves rapidly in the search area, scanning. When she doesn't find anything, she slows down and starts detailing.

Interior 2 search video - There was one hide. Gimme looked at me at :10, found the hide at :19 and then really looked at me to make sure I was coming to pay up.

Interior 3 search video - Gimme found all three hides quickly, without looking at me at all between them, at :18, :25 and :41. She only looked to see if I was coming - which is how she normally searches. There was actually a piece of hotdog on the floor under the second hide (bar stool) and she paid no attention to it. Instead she took the treat from me and then moved on to find the third/final hide. Talk about odor obedience.

Gimme doesn't usually look at me much in a search. Mostly just to make sure I'm coming with her reward. Sometimes she'll look at me when I'm moving into her space, just to keep an eye on what I'm up to.

This was all very interesting. The idea was to see if the dog's pattern of behavior related to behavior changes was notably different when there wasn't versus when there was hides. In Gimme's case, my talking in the first search (different than when I chatter, which she ignores), created a false high number of looks. On the second and third searches she went back to her normal behavior. The expected pattern change was much more obvious with the other dogs.

Nosework class (1/42)

We had an interesting group of interior searches.

Interior 1 search video - For the first search we were restricted to 3 foot of leash, so naturally, Gimme got a strong correction at the very beginning as she dashed into the search area. We were to use the short leash to direct the dog up and down the lines of chairs/etc. I got a few choice "looks" from Gimme about my suddenly inept handling. Still she finds the first hide easily in 23 seconds. It takes her about half the search to get used to my over-controlling behavior - just in time for her to find the second hide. I even got a compliment on how I used a front cross to smoothly turn Gimme toward the chair we'd missed at the end of the prior row, which had the third hide on it. She was kind of funny on the fourth hide, since I wasn't ready with a reward, she tried to get her nose in my treat bag for a bit of self-serve.

There was a time in her life when Gimme would not have put up with this kind of handling without a lot of attitude. She accepted this better when I got a little bit ahead of her, which worked to create a loose leash.

Interior 2 search video - For the second search we were able to use as much leash as we wanted. All four hides were moved and Gimme found them almost 30 seconds faster. She does a LOT better without my interference.

Interior 3 search video - This is a good video to watch twice, once to watch wonderful Gimme and the other to listen to the background conversation (something I was unaware of at the time).

We searched on 6 foot of leash, following the dog's path, while the hides were repeatedly moved running-bunny style. Gimme found the first hide easily. Then at the table, my hovering increased her attempt to get paid for lingering odor. As soon as we moved away, Dorothy put a hide on the table. Gimme found a hide on a chair and shortly after on a beige cart. She found lingering odor on the wheelchair and then went back to now-lingering odor on the beige cart. She seemed to need me to look at it and when I said I didn't see anything, she moved over to the hide on the red cart. From there she got to the vicinity of the table hide, but was convinced it had to be on something else, since she'd already eliminated the table - "messing with her expectations". Once she let go of her expectations, she found it. Then when she comes by again, it's on the table again, but at the other end. She'd already checked the chair leaning against the wall multiple times, and then comes back to find a hide on it. When we go back up to the front, it takes her over a minute to suddenly figure out where the hide was on the grooming table. When she does, she goes straight to it. Hides on the grooming table always seem to be tricky for some unknown reason. She finds 8 hides in 7:15. She's always had a lot of resilience to search for long periods.

I was glad Gimme got a nice long search at the end, with less restrictions. She sure loves using her nose.

Nosework class (6/41)

They've combined the two Tuesday night classes, so you may notice Dorothy commenting on things as if people don't know Gimme.  It's because they don't, eh...

This class was all about inaccessible hides and puzzles. Gimme quickly makes the inaccessible into accessible.

Interior 1 video - Clearly I wasn't thinking about where her toes were when I moved the door - dumb me. For the first puzzle in the big room, I was waiting for her to tell me she needed help, but she decided to take things into her own capable paws. She is a Parkour Grand Champion after all. She solved the second puzzle much faster than the other dogs. She was slower than I expected to solve the last puzzle. I think the table was blocking the odor because she was moving so fast and rounding off that corner.

Interior 2 video - This second set Gimme did give me a "help me" look on the first puzzle. You almost can't see it because she's behind a cart. Then she quickly finds a hind outside the big puzzle. You'll see her go around the big puzzle to check where she found the opening before (Dorothy comments on it). Gimme always remembers stuff. Once she sees she can't get in there, she slows down a bit and finds the other opening right away.

Interior 3 video - This time there was only one hide, in the bathroom. Whenever you do a bunch of inaccessible or hard to access hides, it's important to end with an easy one. Gimme checked where the puzzle had been before and caught odor from there, turned on a thin dime and had the bathroom hide in 7 seconds!

This girl loves puzzles. She was very happy to get back to nosework class...

Nosework class (5/41)

Tonight we had 3 interior searches.  It is very cool to see how Gimme's indications have become so clear - and - unfortunately how bad I am at recognizing them.

Interior 1 video - I called alert because Gimme was showing so much interest and it was totally on me - she didn't look at me at all. She knew it wasn't a hide and moved on before Dorothy said "no". There were no hides and you can see Gimme's behavior reflects it, once we get past my personal bias. She was quite interested in the cart with the two trays of people cookies on it.

Interior 2 video - Note how different this was. Gimme is much more direct in her focus and when she is sure she has it, she starts toward me to make sure I've noticed. When she sees me coming toward her, note her movement back to the hide. Her indication was very clear.

Interior 3 video - For this last search there were 7 hides and Gimme found them all. I think her indications are becoming more clear all the time. At this point it's more about me restraining myself and waiting for her to do something to tell me "this is it". She sometimes baps or pushes around something, but it's not an indication until she gives me the-look or comes toward me to get me to come with her to the hide. I think once I get this clear in my head, we'll stop having false alerts.

We don't have class on the 24th or the 31st. Gimme will be so disappointed.

We got into a TDU test in Portland on Wednesday, January 1st. It's hosted by the Portland Dog Obedience Club. This is the same club where Gimme got her TD, so I think it would be great fun to get another tracking title there. I'm sure Gimme will do great, I just have to keep from messing her up. I'll take all the prayers I can get.

Nosework class (4/41)

Usually we do a lot more container searches (i.e. indoor searches) when the weather is rainy and cold, but Dorothy wanted to take advantage of the cold for exterior and vehicle searches. The class focus was elevated hides.

Exterior search video - This search demonstrated how scent sometimes arcs out from a high location leaving a large dead space under the arc. Gimme loves elevated hides, so the challenge was the abnormal arc-affect. She's smarter than the other dogs, so she finds it faster than they did, but it was still slower than normal.

Watch Gimme and you'll see she finds the scent 4' from where it is and then is challenged to find the high hide at 4' high. If you watch her on the first hide, you'll see she practically draws a half circle 4' around the hide location. Pretty interesting to see. She goes almost straight to the second hide once she realized she was gonna get to "go high".

Vehicle search video - Fortunately the hide was on the side of the truck closest to the street light, so you can see what is happening. Gimme found this very quickly - 9 seconds.

Interior search video - Gimme takes a straight line from the start line to the hide location high on the cart. Look how far it is and she just knew it was there. Note she's not the least bit concerned by the movement of the stool or cart - Parkour rules... It took her 6 seconds to get to where the hide is and just 3 seconds to source it. Awesome girl.

I keep thinking Gimme should learn to take her time finding hides to "get our money's worth". She said her need to get a chicken nugget is more important than my money's worth.

Nosework class (3/41)

Gimme hasn't done much lately and she's missed no opportunity to remind me. We had a few gaps in the nosework schedule. Then Gimme and I missed a nosework class because of my back and we haven't been walking much for the same reason. Missed tracking because of my back and had just one RFE practice. I'm getting better and we're trying to get caught up on walking. This was our first nosework class in a few weeks and I thought Gimme might be too excited to do well. She was indeed excited, but did well anyway.

I will say I wasn't clear on the purpose of this class' exercises. Normally Dorothy explains them very well, but didn't this night.

Container 1 video - This first search was a threshold hide. Gimme overran it, as usual, but must have caught the scent because she turned herself back to it, indicating in just 7¾ seconds. The other instructor said I ran her into the search, causing her to pass odor. I've watched this video repeatedly and don't see any running - I walked fast to keep up with her and have exactly one step, which was faster than a walk, and which was also just as Gimme turned back. I really don't see how we could have done a nicer job of it.

Container 2 video - This was pretty much the same start, me walking as fast as I needed to keep up with her. Gimme had the hide in 7½ seconds. She wasted no time at all.

Container 3 video - This didn't go as fast because my position was between Gimme and the hide at first. I was just thinking about moving outside the row OR getting Gimme to search on the other side of me when Dorothy asked the question. "Where do you want her to search and where could you move yourself?" Before I could reply, Gimme took matters into her own capable paws and went straight to the hide. Gimme is so talented, she really doesn't need my help. Howevah... what other handlers do to help their dogs, I need to learn so I'm not a hindrance. Even with my unintended blocking of odor, Gimme still had the hide in 30 seconds. BTW I did take three "running" steps. I do this to keep the line slack, so Gimme doesn't get an unintended leash correction for hitting the end of the line.  I do the same thing in tracking.

Interior 1 video - For this off-leash search all the hides were in the near part of the room and the larger back two-thirds was blank. I really expected Gimme to zoom through the near area and then work her way back to it. Actually Gimme caught the threshold hide from the doorway/startline - stretching her nose toward it (sadly not caught on video) and caught it right away. She circled a little into the back two-thirds, but came back quickly to catch hide two on the black cart. From there she again circled a little deeper into the empty part of the room, but then brought herself back to the black cart. She very briefly paused to see if I'd pay a second time and when I didn't fall for it, went quickly to detail and locate the last hide. She had all three hides in about 1:15... very nice.

She did a nice job in class, despite being cooped up for a couple of weeks and bored out of her mind. She was happy to see Auntie Janice waiting to give her a manicure. I don't really think she likes the manicure, but she loooooves all the peanut butter she gets.

Nosework class (2/41)

Vehicle search video - Gimme went right to the first hide, sniffed with interest and then left it. As she got to the back bumper, she went back and forth between the two truck bumpers. Then went back up to the step at the front door and alerted. Then she went around to the far side of the white vehicle, until she got to the front bumper and alerted at the license plate. From there I gave her far too much time to investigate the back half of the white boom truck. She gave me some looks, as if to see if I would pay her, but it wasn't "the look". I don't know why she was interested in the back end of the boom truck, but at least she didn't give me a false alert.

Interior 1 search video - The first interior search (on leash) was of three carts in the little foyer - set up to be purposely crowded. It took Gimme a bit to find the first hide on the beige cart, because she was inhibited at first by where I was standing. When I moved on a little bit, then she got right in and indicated. She went around a bit but wasn't settling anywhere, so I called "finished" and was wrong. When I gave her more time, she alerted on the red cart. She had shown a little interest there, but not an alert. Handling in such a crowded area is hard because the line snags on stuff.  Also it's very challenging to strike the right balance between staying far enough away to allow the dog room to work and being close enough to be supportive.

Interior 2 search video - This search was in the tiny bathroom, with a large tub and wheelchair added to make it crowded. Gimme quickly got the hide on the tub. I tried to get her in the space between the tub/wheelchair and the sink and it was challenging. She did finally get in there and then immediately left. She's not normally inhibited by crowded spaces, so I think she knew there was nothing else to find there.

Interior 3 search video - The last search was the whole big room. We were instructed to not tell the dog what to do. Case in point being all the times I tell Gimme, "Thank you, find another one". Gimme rushed in and found the first hide on the green tub in 13 seconds. She finds the second hide on a chair in 5 seconds. She finds the third hide on the red tub in 9 seconds. Hide four on another chair took just 5 seconds. The fifth hide on another chair took 14 seconds. The sixth hide took 18 seconds. Finding the seventh hide took 30 seconds.
When Gimme went back to hides I knew she'd done, Dorothy encouraged me to ask her "are there any more?" It was interesting to see how easily Gimme moved on when asked. This probably makes great sense to her because it's so similar to when I ask "Is this the good track?" in tracking. We also saw her start checking hides she'd already indicated and then moving on by herself. It was cool.

This was a great class and interesting. Unfortunately this week (11/19) Gimme had to miss class. I've wrenched my back and can't do much of anything. I can drive and such, but if Gimme pulled on the line (as she so often does in nosework) it would be very painful for me, which might negatively affect her confidence. We also skipped tracking today (11/21), for the same reason, plus Nadine sprained her ankle.
