The weather is turning cold really fast, so Dorothy is trying to get as many searches done outside as we can before the rain catches up to us.
Exterior 1a video - She found one right off the start line and did a good indication. We knew where the hides were and the next is on the grate, but I acted like I didn't know. She seemed to be working the grate, until she went past it to poop.
She was outside for over an hour before we went to class and she got a short walk after we got there. I walked her again while another dog did the search and it was a bit loose. It's pretty amazing to see how fast it gets dark this time of year. This was just four minutes after the first search.
Exterior 1b video - She went directly to the first hide, which she'd resolved already in the first partial search. This time she had a very different search strategy, so what we thought was her going to work out the nearest hide in the last search really was all about needing to poop. She went directly up the line to where another hide was located. I moved her around before letting her indicate again because the hide was located on something she could get injured on from her original angle of approach. Gimme would have liked to go further back along the driveway, but it was out of the search area. Once I moved her across the driveway, she went down to the next hide on her own. She did pass it a bit, but then caught the scent and turned back to it. From there she went straight down to the hide on the grate. She did 4 hides in a large search area in 2:41.
Interior 1 video - This was a very tight search area and maneuvering it as fast as Gimme wanted to go was a challenge - I had to be very mindful of things I could run into. Gimme went through the area checking everything, but not sticking to anything. After 1:50, I called it clear and was right. I'm finally getting a sense of when she's not finding anything - she's busy and persistent, but doesn't try to source anywhere.
Interior 2 video - Dorothy always likes to end on a hide after a clear search area. So we had one hide in the same area. Gimme gets this hide in 6½ seconds!
Way to go...
