Tracking (52)

On Saturday, July 6th, I laid a track for Gimme at Flaming Geyser. I've noticed in the last couple of tracks, her nose is just a bit less talented than usual. I'm thinking she may be dealing with a different type of pollen. So I aged this track just 1:40. It was 67 degrees with minimal breeze when we ran it. I marked all the corners ten feet before the turn, so I'd know for sure where they were.

It took Gimme the whole of the first leg and a good part of the second leg to settle her nose on the scent. She was too willing to go off track for no noticeable reason. She did find the first three articles and the first three turns (even the acute angle first turn) with no difficulty. She actually followed the fourth leg accurately, but missed the article. I brought her back around and she still didn't find it. I didn't see it either, so I'm wondering if it got carried off (light blue dot). I think I may have to start marking article drops as well, maybe with a flag ten feet past them.

Gimme found the article as we tracked the meandering down hill path and practically had to stand on her head to stop for it, since she was going so fast. She was about to round the last turn by a lot, when she smelled the article and got drawn back to the track. She then did the corner nicely and ran to the final article.
